Healthy Homemade Dog Treats

My yellow lab, Daisy, absolutely loves these homemade treats! I make them for her every week and she waits to get the first warm cookie, staring at me as soon as she smells them in the oven! She has always had a sensitive stomach and store bought treats and food were always hard for her to digest. These treats have been perfect for her and she hasn’t had any issues since eating them, so it is worth it to me to take a little time each week to make these for her.

My Dog Daisy Ready for her Treat

These dog treats are made all in one bowl, so there is little mess to clean up, and they come together in less than 30 minutes from start to finish. The ingredients you will need are oat flour, applesauce, pumpkin puree, ground ginger, and eggs. I know that oat flour can be quite expensive, so I usually process regular old fashioned oats in my food processor which makes it a lot more economical.

For the pumpkin puree and applesauce, feel free to use one or the other if you don’t have both. You can also use mashed banana or peanut butter. I have used mashed banana before, and my dog goes crazy for it! So, the recipe is quite flexible. You can use any type of wet ingredient that doesn’t have added salt or sugar as long as it is something that is ok for dogs to eat.

I hope you will give these treats a try for your special pup! If you do, please leave a rating and comment below. I would love to hear from those that have tried them and I am happy to answer any questions you might have!

Notes

  • If you don’t want to buy store bought oat flour, you can make your own by processing old fashioned oats in a food processor. Just pulse until it turns into a flour.
  • Always check with your Vet if you are unsure if your dog can eat certain homemade treats.
